Greetings and welcome to the definitive download site on the splitscreen preferential looking paradigm! Currently we are able to run this paradigm using powerpoint with one apple imac, one sony digital8 camcorder, and one lcd projector -- that's it! This download page contains the most uptodate methods, programs, and demonstrations for creating stimuli, presenting it, and coding/analyzing data.

NEW Updated 2008 Version that works with 10.8
- Intro Video.
- Stimuli Creation
- SPLP Masks for Quicktime Pro (used to make Splitscreen movies: see Demonstration Movie).
- SPLP WhiteMask for Quicktime Pro (control-click link for download).
- Presentation
- Presentation Sample (using MS Powerpoint).
- Coding and Analysis
- SuperCoder (Universal): a program for coding preferential looking (Universal app works in OSX 10.8). NOTE: Videos must FIRST be encoded at 29.97fps in DV format, ProRes 422 (proxy) or Apple Intermediate Codec (basically any format that renders ALL frames) -- THEN you may code from these files directly OR you may compress them as H.264 or mp4 to save space. In essence, Supercoder does not like it if all the frames are not rendered first, before compressing. If you do go this route you can make sure supercoder is counting properly, by filming a stopwatch and coding that :-)
Reference:
Hollich, G. (2008). Supercoder: A program for coding preferential looking (Version 1.7.1). [Computer Software]. West Lafayette: Purdue University. - New MS Excel Coding Macros for calculating looking times by trial and timecourse result.
- NOTE: There is an error in the NewAnalyzeMacro which causes it to not count the last look if the end time is set before the end of the trial. Sign up here to be notified as soon as a fix exist. Or help find the fix, since the source code is available at Sourceforge. Meanwhile, the fbf macro will give you a printout of the looks which can be summed via the countif command (for right looks countif -1 and for left looks countif 1). This is actually a much more flexible way to code and do analysis and is our preferred method these days.
- Stimuli
- Baby Movie for intertrial intervals - As mp4 - 1.19mb or DV - 10.3mb.
- Some Sample Splitscreen Stimuli (SS1, SS2).
- Some Sample Objects (Object 1, Object 2, Object 3).
- Some Sample Familiar Objects (Apple, Book, Keys, & Flower).
- Some Sample Moving Objects (Moving Object 1, Moving Object 2).
