Word Learning Study

How does prior exposure to words affect infants' word learning abilities? How much does exposure to similar sounding words affect this learning? The movie above is a sample of the stimuli use in our study that examines these questions.
In this study, infants are first exposed to a series of nonsense words. Next, infants are tested on their ability to learn two word-object pairings. After a labeling phase in which the infants see each of the objects individually, and hear them paired with a label, infants see the above display and hear one of the labels.
From infants' looking preferences and speed of eye gaze shift, it is possible to ascertain how well infants can learn each of the word object pairings.
